For lack of a better title....

So! This is my first proper try in Photoshop (used CS2), first try at drawing kissing, first try at doing a couple pic, first try at drawing cartoon style Star Trek. Lots of firsts.

My anatomy skills are quite laughable, I know. Well, gotta learn.

It would be very helpful if anyone could tell me better ways of colouring skin and clothes? All I did was brush and smudge. Um. Backgrounds too. Constructive criticism and feedback much appreciated.

Ah, I do find Spock/Uhura cute. Spock/Kirk too, but that's another story. =D

I drew it on paper, then scanned it in. I worked on it somewhat consistently for about half an hour every few days, so from lineart to background, the whole thing took me two months. O_o

gah cuz when i was first trying out the coloring thing, i thought...how the hell did u color all the small details. You have to do it manually...which will indeed take a long time

Yes, I did all the small details manually on a separate layer. For large areas, just select with magic want and go to edit->>fill right?

Considering how you don't have a tablet, I think this is good shot. :)
I suggest changing the opacity and size of your brush every time you're colouring or shading. It'd be more tedious on your part because you don't have a tablet but that's oh-kay. For shading, you could cheat by using a basic dark colour and setting its layer property to a setting like 'multiply' or something else which suits, that way, it'll turn into a darker tone of your flat base.

Ah, great tip! Thanks. Perhaps when I think I am "pro" enough I'll save up for a tablet. I'm so bad I don't even know how one functions...

I've read your DA signature in a Peanuts comic before; I think it's so cute and funny.

Wow, this was your first try at all of that? It looks great!

The way I color is just playing with the opacity + pressure sensitivity with my tablet, that's how I sorta blend the shadows... and sometimes I use different brushes for different textures. I don't know if that method would work for you, but maybe you can try. I think the way you did it looks good, though. ^^

Haha, this 'first try' took two months because I was so slow with it!

I don't have a tablet, that's why I smudge a lot. I've been discovering the sorts of shadows that the smudge tool can make, Photoshop's quite fun. =)

Will try to download some interesting textures.
