I drew this for my father's birthday.

I blame him for getting me interested in Star Trek after he made me watch the 2009 movie. Which was awesome, by the way.

Since we both like Spock I thought that this would be fitting.

Constructive comments are much appreciated, especially about how to improve the hair.

Totally awesome.
I think the hair looks great as it is.

I love the hair especially! THe skin and the ears are good as well! Maybe add a bit more detail in the pupil next time? But overall, good job!

This is a great drawing, really. You've done really well in capturing the realism by shadows and such. Especially from the nose part and down; you did a tremendous job there! And the hair: I think it looks a bit flat. Almost like a hat. Try to make it a bit more "messy", by not letting all the hair get stuck like glue on his head. Do you know what I mean? Even Spock has somewhat messy hair, I believe (I do not watch Star Trek, but I can assure you I'm almost certain of it). Anyway, make it messier, and the hair will be more "alive".

I get you, about the hair. Haha yeah I WAS thinking of a hat when I did it. :)

This is overall very realistic and quite impressive for just a pencil drawing - the lighting is played out very well. However, in terms of drawing the face itself, there a few bumps. Literally. The jagged chin down to the right and the slightly straightened cheekbones betray the realism of the facial structure - you want more flowing lines when it comes to how it's drawn.

Thanks very much. I suppose I carried my assumption of an angular Spock too far. =)

First off - very good drawing! I very nice tribute to the original Vulcan! Glad to see your dad converted you into Trekkie-ism. Welcome to the family! =D

Now, for some constructive feedback. The face is very well proportioned, however, the ear is far too low. Generally, where the top part of the ear connects to the temple is at the level of the pupil. You correctly placed the earlobe, ending it at the level between the nose and ear.

You made good use of contrast - however I would encourage you to go even further. Make the darks darker and the lights a little bit lighter. This will help make your drawing not only look more appealing, but it will help the drawing seem less 'flat.' If you're serious about black and white drawings, invest in some decent quality pencils if you haven't already - they will be an invaluable asset as you play around with lights and darks.

Thanks so much fellow Trekkie. The ear bit is great advice. I myself have some pencils ranging from F to 4H and then B to 8B. I think that should do it.
